Let’s be honest, it’s not too hard to make an impromptu drum set pretty much anywhere you are. All you really need is a long wooden (ish) item of some kind, and something to bang it on! You can make a drum set out of paint cans and chopsticks, twigs and tree stumps, the garbage bin and sticks, a plate and fork! The list goes on and on. But this kid has pretty much made the most impressive random drum set we’ve ever seen. But he had a little luck on his side. As it so happens, the dishwasher is full of the perfect assortment of dishes to beat with a wooden spoon! They all make slightly different sounds and none of them are too shrill or annoying. And so this kid doesn’t waste even a moment making is beautiful “music.” Admittedly, it’s probably not the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard in your life. Although it’s not bad! But let’s be honest, this is not exactly a Beethoven cover song.
This kid is having a grand old time! He’s rocking out to the beat in his head, while smashing a wooden spoon on pots and pans in the dishwasher. Here’s the best part, the silverware, which he readily beats on with the spoon as well, is the perfect substitute for a set of symbols. That’s probably the best substitute in this video. I wonder how much longer he played this “instrument” before he got bored. I bet his mom was hoping this game wouldn’t last for more than ten seconds. Partly because she has a headache and wants to empty the dishwasher! But alas, I guess that’s life with an eight-year-old. You don’t always get what you want. Especially when they’re in the mood to make music. We’ve all been there before, right? All you want is peace and quiet in the house, and they come home from school having been cooped up all day and all they want is to make as much noise as humanly possible. That’s when you have to compromise.”Okay, ten more minutes of drumming in the dishwasher, and then you can watch two hours of TV!”
When was the last time you drummed on something? Do you get bored at work and sometimes drum on your keyboard with the plastic silverware you got from your Chinese takeout? Because I did that exact thing a few minutes ago. I feel like it’s pretty universal. Drumming is just fun to do! Creating a beat is soothing and melodic at the same time. So we can’t blame this kid for having a good time all on his own. Maybe one day we’ll be buying tickets to see his band in person! Keep rocking out, little guy!
